Mit dem Pontifikat von Papst Franziskus ist die „Kirche der Armen“ neu in das Bewusstsein getreten: Das 2. Vatikanische Konzil hat entscheidende Impulse für die Erneuerung der Kir-che aus dem Geist des Evangeliums, vor allem der Seligpreisungen gegeben. In der latein-amerikanischen Kirche ist es dann zu einer kreativen Rezeption dieses neuen „Welt-Kirche-Werdens“ gekommen. Die Generalversammlung des lateinamerikanischen Episkopats in Medellín (1968) war beeindruckender Ausgangspunkt für die neue Identitätsbestimmung einer Kirche an der Seite der Armen. Ein solcher Weg ist mit „Konversion“ verbunden, mit „Mystik und Politik“, mit einem Engagement, das zu einem Lebenseinsatz führen kann. Bischof Oscar Romero und der Jesuit Ignacio Ellacuría stehen für viele Christen und Chri-stinnen, die zu Märtyrern einer Kirche der Armen geworden sind.

Das Seminar versucht, die neuen theologischen und pastoralen Wege einer Kirche an der Seite der Armen in Lateinamerika „auf den Spuren von Oscar Romero und Ignacio Ellacuría“ zu erschließen. Dabei wird die „Option für die Armen“ als zentrale Herausforderung für den christlichen Glauben herausgearbeitet in Auseinandersetzung mit der lateinamerika¬nischen Befreiungstheologie, vor allem der christologischen und soteriologischen Ansätze, wie sie in Mittelamerika entstanden sind. Dabei wird auch ein Blick in die Geschichte der Missionie¬rung Lateinamerikas gerichtet und im besonderen an den Osterkappeler Missionar Pater Franz Hermann Glandorff SJ (1687-1763) erinnert. Im Rahmen des Seminars wird der Mainzer Kirchengeschichtler und Lateinamerika-Experte Prof. Dr. Johannes Meier am Donnerstag, den 23. Januar, in die Jesuitenmission in Mittelamerika und Leben und Wirken von Pater Glandorff einführen.

Im Anschluss an das Seminar wird vom 16. März 2014 bis 3. April 2014 eine Studien- und Exposure-Reise nach San Salvador stattfinden, in Kooperation mit dem theologischen Mento-rat (Dipl.theol. Martin Kempen) und der Bischöflichen Aktion ADVENIAT. An dieser Reise können 15 Studierende teilnehmen. Das Seminar steht jedoch allen interessierten Studieren-den offen.
