Diese Vorlesung will Grundkenntnisse zu den wichtigsten kirchengeschichtlichen Entwicklungen und Ereignissen auf dem zweitausendjährigen Weg von der Urgemeinde in Jerusalem zur Weltkirche von heute vermitteln. Schwerpunkte werden in der Alten Kirchengeschichte die frühchristliche Mission, die Auswirkungen der Konstantinischen Wende und die ersten Ökumenischen Konzilien bilden, im Mittelalter die Christianisierung der Germanen, der Investiturstreit sowie das Abendländische Schisma und in der Neuzeit Reformation und Gegenreformation, die Große Säkularisation von 1803 sowie die beiden Vatikanischen Konzilien.
