For international PhD-students

Welcome to the ZePrOs website!

Our center offers PhD students a wide range of tailor-made courses and workshops, networking opportunities with peers and regional businesses and expert advice on all matters pertaining to their doctoral studies at the University of Osnabrück. Our aim is to give PhD students specialized support and guidance and help them develop job-related competencies. Making provision for students’ differing needs, our services and activities are planned and organized along the lines of the following fields of study: Natural Sciences, Humanities, Law, Economics and Social Sciences.

This page offers an overview of our program and services, introduces you to our team of coordinators and provides information on registration procedures.


ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
PhD students registered with ZePrOs are offered the following:
• Expert advice on all aspects pertaining to their doctoral studies
• Personal guidance and mentoring
• Web-based networking opportunities and inter-disciplinary exchange with fellow PhD students
• Tailor-made courses and workshops developing research and professional skills
• Contact with regional businesses

COURSES AND WORKSHOPS
Our training courses and workshops are designed to cater for PhD students' specific and changing needs. The program is constantly revised and covers the following topics and skills:
• Science and society
• Managerial skills
• Self-management and career planning
• Research skills, language and media competencies

Should you require detailed information on our current program, you are welcome to contact the coordinator responsible for research support(see below).

All courses and workshops are offered free of charge and are only open to PhD students from the University of Osnabrück who have registered with ZePros.

Our workshops and courses require a specific number of participants. We therefore kindly request students to inform us 10 days prior to the workshop or beginning of a course, should they not be able to participate anymore. Information about changes to our current program is published on our blog.

REGISTRATION
The program and services offered by ZePrOs are open to all PhD students enrolled at the University of Osnabrück and registered with ZePrOs. In order to register, you have to complete the registration form below. This should be handed in together with a confirmation of your enrollment issued by your faculty (“Betreuungszusage”), as well as an abstract. A registration with ZePrOs is possible throughout the whole year.

Pointers on writing your abstract
Your abstract should be approximately two pages long and contain the following:
1) Detailed information on the topic and research focus of your PhD, including your research question, aims of your study and research design (approximately one page)
2) A brief overview of the research that has already been done by others on this specific topic and of the ways in which your research is related to and deviates from it
3) An overview of pilot studies or other preparatory work related to your PhD (e.g. research done for the purposes of your Master’s degree, professional experience etc.)
4) A preliminary time schedule for your research

Students who are still in the initial stages of their doctoral studies and who might not yet be able to provide detailed information on their planned research projects are still welcome to register with ZePrOs. They are advised to simply take up contact with one of our coordinators.
