Fachschaften (Departmental student organizations)

All of the students in a School elect representatives who sit on a departmental student organization, generally known as a Fachschaft. Each group consists of seven members. However, there are usually more students involved than just the elected members.
The Fachschaftsrat, or student advisory board, represents the students of a department.
Besides their representative function, the members of the Fachschaften have very different tasks. For instance, the Fachschaften advise students, organize social and cultural events, or sponsor book sales.
