Before you decide to come to Osnabrück, you should first find out if your research project can be carried out at the University. Of assistance here would be the pages for the individual Schools at the University (course offerings, academic personnel, research subjects and teams - partly in German).
The staff of the International Office will be glad to help you find an academic mentor or host institute, and will pass your inquiries on to the proper institutes.

Making Contact > To prepare for your stay, it is important to make early contact with your academic host:

to inquire about academic assistance for grant applications

to prepare your research

to agree on the research period

for the timely submission of applications for financial support, e.g. to the DAAD

for information on the host institute, available facilities and equipment

for assistance with housing

for employment: work contracts and agreements with the Personnel Department.

German Language Skills > International guest scholars can talk to the Language Center (Sprachenzentrum) about taking classes in German as a foreign language during the semester. Moreover, many language schools in Osnabrück offer foreigners the chance to learn or improve their German. The International Office will be glad to advise you.
At the University of Osnabrück, English is the scientific language, especially in the Natural Sciences, so basic knowledge of German will simply help you to manage your daily life.
