Applications and admissions for exchange students

Closing date for application

1  July
for the following winter semester (commencement: October)

1 January:
for the following summer semester (commencement: April)

Exchange students (students from partner universities abroad) are subject to different provisions to those that apply to other international students. For example, the application and admission procedures for exchange students are vastly simplified.

Unlike regular international applicants, exchange students from partner universities do not have to take a German language test, nor do they require a valid qualification for admission to higher education in Germany.
Exchange students are simply nominated in writing by their home university, and require confirmation that they are enrolled there. (Students who are not nominated within an exchange program and who do not come from a partner university are not governed by these rules – even if they only wish to study temporarily in Osnabrück without completing a degree. Information about applications, admissions, and so on, can be found on the pages for short-term studies.)

Like all other students, exchange student are also formally enrolled at the University. As soon as you have been nominated for an exchange program, please send the following documents to the International Office in order to officially apply as an exchange student:

  • online application
  • a passport photo
  • confirmation of registration issued by the home university
  • if desired: application for a place in a student residence (“application form”)

Please note that we can only process your application once we have received your online AND paper application!

Address to which your application dossier (and application for a place in a student residence, if desired) must be sent:

Osnabrück University
International Office
Neuer Graben 27
D-49074 Osnabrück

As soon as the International Office has received and processed your application, you will receive a letter of admission by post (which you need to apply for a visa, if you require a visa to enter Germany), together with further information concerning your stay in Osnabrück.
