11. May 2010 : University of Osnabrück joins iTunes U - Audio and video recordings from research and teaching downloadable free of charge

<a href=”http://itunes.uni-osnabrueck.de” target=”_blank” >The University of Osnabrück is the first university in northern Germany to join iTunes U</a>, a dedicated area of the <a href=”http://www.itunes.de” target=”_blank”>iTunes Store</a> that offers free audio and video content from leading educational institutions (http://itunes.uni-osnabrueck.de). The Center for Information Management and Virtual Teaching (virtUOS) of the University of Osnabrück is a partner in the project and offers learning material worldwide.

The University of Osnabrück is the first university in northern Germany to join iTunes U, a dedicated area of the iTunes Store (http://www.itunes.de) that offers free audio and video content from leading educational institutions. »The University of Osnabrück has been using technology to share knowledge in addition to conventional teaching for some time«, University president Professor Claus Rollinger says. »By offering audio-visual content from both teaching and research on iTunes U, the University of Osnabrück is accessible to everyone.«

iTunes U content can be downloaded free of charge to a Mac or PC. Those who have an iPod, iPhone or a similar mobile player, can access the material on the go.

»The content on iTunes U is a perfect addition to the UOS's successful video portal Lernfunk.de«, Dr. Andreas Knaden, CEO of virtUOS, points out. The University of Osnabrück on iTunes U contains audio and video recordings in German and English, covering lectures in Computer Science and Linguistics as well as the Osnabrück Peace Talks and the Knowledge Forum.
