School of Social Sciences

The School of Social Sciences is characterized by close cooperation between Political Science and Sociology in research and teaching. Twelve areas of work (German) cover the main fields of these two disciplines, making a major contribution to the Bachelor and Master’s programs. The School maintains diverse interdisciplinary and institutional contacts with the Institute of Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS), the Center for Democracy and Peace Research, the Japan Research Center and the EU-funded Jean Monnet Center of Excellence in European Studies.
In addition, numerous cooperation agreements exist with non-university facilities such as the German Foundation for Peace Research and the German Political Science Association (DPVW), the secretariat of which is headquartered at the School.
The School has an excellent national and international network – not only when it comes to cooperation in research, but also concerning collaboration with international universities within exchange programs. The School has 47 Erasmus cooperative agreements (German), in addition to a number of agreements outside the realm of Erasmus, enabling the School to offer its students interesting places to study in Europe and further afield.
