| Beschreibung: | Evolution is the framework under which all of biology operates. Even so, it remains that many researchers fail to account for evolutionary relatedness when performing comparative biological analyses. However, to properly distinguish between similarity arising because of a common selective pressure versus that arising from common ancestry ("phylogenetic inertia") it is imperative to account for the phylogenetic relationships of the organisms under investigation. In this talk, I provide examples of how employing an evolutionary perspective has improved our understanding of various aspects of mammalian biology, including their systematics, comparative biology, conservation biology, and macroevolution. |
