Enrollment and Student Card

The actual enrollment or registration at the University of Osnabrück is completed after you arrive in Osnabrück. Students should enroll until the beginning of the semester, that is, by October 1 or April 1, depending upon the semester. It is normally not possible to register after October 15 (winter semester) or April 15 (summer semester).

You must register at the Admissions Office (Studierendensekretariat), where you must also present the following:

  • proof that you are insured in Germany or confirmation from the AOK (Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse) that your insurance at home is accepted in Germany
  • receipt for semester and tuition fees
  • passport

During the International Office’s Welcome Week , participants will also receive assistance with registration. The International Office accompanies students attending Welcome Week through the necessary steps for enrollment.
When you have completed all of the registration formalities, you will get a student card and confirmation of enrollment from the Admissions Office.

Your student card will allow you to ride for free in buses in and around Osnabrück and in many regional trains in Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen). For detailed information, see the reverse side of your student card.

You will also need your student card in order to use the library and the cafeteria (Mensa). Some places offer student discounts, such as movie theaters, theaters, swimming pools, museums, etc.

On your student card you will find information concerning your log-in name and password which you need when using myUOS.
