Besides the traditional German degrees, the University of Osnabrück has increased its emphasis on programs that offer a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, especially in light of the Bologna Process. In 1999, as part of the Bologna Declaration, the education ministers of twenty-nine European countries agreed to institute standards in order to facilitate exchange among European universities and to strengthen Europe as and educational center. An important point was the creation of a system of comparable degrees. The University of Osnabrück has accomplished this by introducing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Starting in winter semester 2004, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees will completely replace Magister programs, as well as the old teaching programs.
