Teaching Programs at the University of Osnabrück
Teaching programs are different in each individual German state. The programs are differentiated by school level (primary school, secondary school, secondary school II), or as in Lower Saxony, by the type of school (elementary school, Hauptschule, etc.) The general teaching programs (program for elementary, Hauptschule, and Realschule; program for Gymnasien) allow for a number of different ways to combine subjects from the broad spectrum of offerings at the University of Osnabrück, such as the humanities, mathematics, and the natural sciences, as well as artistic or musical subjects. The University of Osnabrück also offers a program for students wanting to teach in vocational schools.
After finishing the program and taking the first state exam, students must do an internship, which lasts from six months to two years, depending upon the type of school chosen.
