Teaching Program for Elementary, Hauptschule, and Realschule (LGHR)

In this program, teachers can qualify to teach at elementary schools, Hauptschule, Realschule, and Gesamtschule (grades 1 to 10). The program includes a focus on both elementary schools and the Haupschule/Realschule. Before applying to take the final examination, students must first decide which area they want to concentrate on. The program prepares students for careers as teachers in at least two subjects. In one of the selected school subjects, however, a teaching certificate for all three types of schools must be earned. Anyone choosing to focus on elementary school education must be ready to apply later for a job at a Haupschule or a Realschule. Anyone electing to focus on Hauptschule or Realschule can also be hired at an elementary school later.

For regulations regarding teaching certificates for a Hauptschule, Realschule, or an elementary school, please see the Prüfungsverordnung ( PVO-Lehr I: part one, part two, paragraph one § 24 - § 30 and supplement 1).
