The Two-subject Bachelor’s Degree
The two-subject Bachelor’s degree was introduced in the academic year of 2004/05. It is characterized by modular programs and the grade point system (ECTS). Blocks of exams are replaced by exams throughout the year, as well as the final exam.
Students have to choose to subjects, which can be studied in two variations: The program is polyvalent, meaning that it prepares students to begin their careers, but also qualifies them to continue studying, either in a Master’s program in their elected subjects, or in a Master of Arts in Education program, which qualifies students to teach at a German Gymnasium (college prep secondary school). More detailed Information is only available in German.
Depending upon which subjects are combined, students in a two-subject Bachelor’s program will earn either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science.
In order to become a teacher at a German Gymansium students will have to earn a Bachelor first and then take a Master in Education.
