In order to carry out its tasks, the Senate may form committees and commissions. Committees are advisory boards whose members must be Senators. Commissions are advisory boards whose members are not necessarily Senators. All groups within the University hierarchy must be represented on commissions and committees.

Academic Senate Committees:

The President is the Chairman of all Academic Senate Committees.

Permanent Senate Committee for Finances and University Development (AFH)
The Permanent Senate Committee for Finances and University Development (AFH) advises the Senate and, in cooperation with the Presidential Board prepares the Senate’s resolutions on development and the University’s economic report. In addition, it works on distributing examination assignments for the end of the year, and receives examination results from examiners.

Permanent Senate Committee for Professorships and Administration (ABS)
Permanent Senate Committee for Professorships and Administration (ABS) provides recommendations for professorial appointments based on proposals made by the schools and departments or faculty. If the Academic Senate cannot punctually make suggestions, the committee also provides recommendations for significant administrative affairs, such as the introduction, alteration, or dissolution of schools or programs of study.

Senate Commission:

The chairmanship of each commission is held by the member of the Presidential Board who is responsible for the area in question.
 

Central Commission for Study and Teaching (ZSK)
As a permanent body, the Central Commission for Study and Teaching (ZSK) advises the Senate and the Presidential Board in all issues affecting study and teaching, including teacher evaluation. It prepares recommendations for the Senate’s decision.

Commission for Research and Student Development (FNK)
As a permanent body, the Commission for Research and Student Development (FNK) advises the Senate and the Presidential Board in all issues affecting research. This especially includes selecting subjects for research, administering research funds, evaluating research results, and supporting the further development of graduate students.

Commission for Information and Communication (KIK)
As a permanent body, the Commission for Information and Communications (KIK) advises the Academic Senate and the Presidential Board in all matters of acquiring, administering, processing, and distributing both print and electronic information of all kinds, as well as network-supported communications.

University Sports Center Cooperative Committee (GA-ZfH)
The University Sports Center Cooperative Committee (GA-ZfH) is a cooperative committee operated by the University and the Osnabrück Fachhochschule/ University of Applied Sciences. It makes recommendations concerning University sports to the Senate and/or the Presidential Board.

Election Committee
The Election Committee oversees elections and is responsible for them, in cooperation with the elections office. It makes decisions concerning objections to the electoral roll, the handling of elections, and the vote count, as well as election complaints. Additionally, it establishes the official results of elections.

Permanent Central Commission for Women and Equal Opportunity (ZKFG)
The Permanent Central Commission for Women and Equal Opportunity (ZKFG) prepares proposals for the Presidential Board and the Academic Senate in fulfillment of its tasks according to § 3 NHG. This especially includes providing the Senate with suggested candidates for the Office for Women and Equal Opportunity, advising and supporting the officers, developing plans for promoting women’s welfare at the University (part of the entire developmental concept), and assisting in carrying out, evaluating, and further developing these plans.

Ethics Commission
The Ethics Commission provides scholars with help in judging and advising upon ethical and, if necessary, legal aspects of biomedical and psychological research on humans. The President of the University of Osnabrück appoints the members of the commission.
