According to the chair of the University Council, Prof. Dr. Elmar Weiler, Prof. Menzel-Riedl and her team have played a major role in helping the university grow into a cohesive, values-driven academic community. “She has represented the university wisely and effectively to the outside world, thereby sustainably enhancing the university’s good reputation both near and far,” Weiler emphasized, adding: “We wish Ms. Menzel-Riedl continued strength, courage, and ideas that fall on fertile ground in her new role—just as they did at the University of Osnabrück.”

Prof. Dr. Susanne Menzel-Riedl was elected president of the University of Osnabrück in 2019, becoming Germany’s youngest university president at the time. On October 1, 2026, she will take up the position of rector at the University of Münster.
