The symposium is organized by the research group “Ethics & Critical Theories of AI,” led by Prof. Dr. Rainer Mühlhoff of the Institute of Cognitive Science at Osnabrück University. The event will take place at the Einstein Center Digital Future in Berlin.
AI technologies are increasingly finding their way into key areas of political decision-making—from public administration and environmental policy to border control and economic governance. “Artificial intelligence has long since ceased to merely transform technical processes; it is now deeply impacting democratic decision-making structures. That is why we must discuss the implications of algorithmic systems for the rule of law, political participation, and social responsibility,” said Prof. Dr. Rainer Mühlhoff of the Institute of Cognitive Science at Osnabrück University, who will open the symposium.
The program includes presentations on AI and growth paradigms, the automation of public administration, sustainable technopolitics, and the use of AI at the European Union’s external borders. The event will conclude with a public panel discussion.
The symposium is part of a research project on “AI and Democracy” funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space.
