They were welcomed by Dr. Wilfried Hötker, Vice President for Human Resources and Finance; Carsten Niekamp, Head of the Human Resources Department; and Frauke van der Meer, who is responsible for vocational training in the Human Resources Department. “I’m delighted that so many young people have once again shown interest in our exciting vocational programs and that we can offer them a good start to their professional careers,” says Wilfried Hötker.
For Blinera Beciri, Anna-Lisa Rollmann, Joos Hülsmann, Lukas Heinbach, Jan Nijhof, and Sebastian Buss, a three-year vocational training is now beginning. Of particular note: The position as a trainee for Plumber and HVAC technician is being filled for the first time this year. This means that the Osnabrück University now offers training in eleven different professions. Next year, the program will be expanded to include training as an electronics technician specializing in energy and building technology.
In addition to technical training, the university offers in-house courses on topics relevant to the vocational training and social issues, as well as language and computer skills. Furthermore, as members of the university community, the trainees can take advantage of the university’s sports programs and other benefits.
“We foster a very positive work culture at the Osnabrück University and collaborate on a daily basis across disciplines with people from a wide variety of fields,” says Frauke van der Meer. “This opens up many exciting opportunities for our trainees beyond their technical training.” With approximately 1,800 employees, the Osnabrück University is one of the largest employers in the Osnabrück area.
As part of the welcome event on August 3, the Youth and Trainee Representative Council (JAV) also introduced itself; this council advises young employees on all matters related to employment. The orientation day concluded with a scavenger hunt across campus organized by the JAV. “We wish our new trainees all the best as they embark on this exciting new chapter in their lives and look forward to shaping the university together with them,” adds Carsten Niekamp.
