A secret meeting, a code word and peace by a thread. On the anniversary day of the Osnabrück handshake, August 10 this year, interested parties can once again embark on a playful quest to crown themselves "peace savers". The campaign is aimed at families with older children/young people and anyone else who is interested. All you need to take part is a smartphone and a flyer, which is available at the town hall, St. Mary's Church and the Forum am Dom. The search game can be played alone or in a group and is completely free of charge.
The day of the event starts with an ecumenical peace service in St. Mary's Church. Afterwards, in addition to the modern treasure hunt, there will also be guided tours through the Bishop's Garden and short presentations on the historical city model in St. Marien. The anniversary celebrations will conclude with a reading by Natalia Wörner in St. Mary's Church. The parish of St. Mary's, the Diocesan Museum, the Regional Association, the City Archaeology Department, the City of Osnabrück and the IKFN of Osnabrück University are all involved.
"Putting yourself in the shoes of the people of that time, solving puzzles and discovering a piece of history on your own - that's what we want to make possible," says Prof. Dr. Siegrid Westphal from Osnabrück University, who developed the Outdoor Escape Room project together with her partly student working group. The editor of the hidden object game, Samuel Arends, also emphasizes: "The Outdoor Escape Room is a wonderful opportunity to explore the city in a playful way in the footsteps of the Peace Congress of Westphalia".
Specifically, the participants slip into the role of Braunschweig-Lüneburg's envoy, Jakob Lampadius. Their task is to find the location of the secret meeting that is to bring about the decisive breakthrough to peace. In order to find the code word and locate the meeting place, puzzles have to be solved at six historically documented stations in the old town.
On the anniversary day, the outdoor escape room can be played from 1pm to 4pm. At the end, participants can expect a small surprise and an additional final challenge. Without this reward, the Outdoor Escape Room can still be played individually afterwards until the "Day of Lower Saxony" (August 29-31) using the flyer. All those who successfully solve the escape room by then will also have the opportunity to take part in a competition.
