The conference is being organized by Kim-Kristin Droste and Lara Höttecke, doctoral students in English Linguistics at the School of Language and Literary Studies. The special thing about it: "STaPs is a conference by doctoral students for doctoral students," says Lara Höttecke. "Our aim is to offer doctoral candidates an open and supportive platform during the initial phase of their doctoral thesis," adds Kim-Kristin Droste. Instead of presenting finished research results, the focus is on the "before and in-between" of scientific work: methodological problem areas, research designs and practical challenges, as well as uncertainties and possible solutions during the doctorate.
The program includes 25 lectures and a poster session presenting doctoral projects from all areas of linguistics - from theoretical and descriptive approaches to projects from psycho-, computer- and sociolinguistics to applied linguistics and multilingualism research.
The program will be complemented by two plenary lectures and practice-oriented workshops. The keynotes will be held by: Nathalie Bauer (University of Münster), who will speak on Interactional Perspectives on Empathy in Medical Conversations. Prof. Dr. Alexander Bergs (Osnabrück University) will speak about linguistic creativity.
