Doctoral Awards Ceremony

A successfully completed doctorate is a testament to an outstanding work of scientific, scholarly research. At the same time, it is a sign of discipline, perseverance, and — ultimately — successful project and time management on the part of its author. Osnabrück University and the City of Osnabrück honor this outstanding scientific and personal achievement with a joint ceremony.

The 2023 doctoral awards ceremony took place on 7 July 2023 in the auditorium of Osnabrück Castle. University President Prof. Dr. Susanne Menzel-Riedl and Prof. Dr. Andrea Lenschow, Vice President for International Affairs, Diversity and Academic Staff Development, congratulated all doctoral graduates who completed their dissertations between June 2019 and June 2023.

This was followed by a joint walk through the city center to the town hall. There, the guests were welcomed by Katharina Pötter, Mayor of the City of Osnabrück.

Inscription in the doctoral book

In her speech, the Mayor referred to the close connection between the city and the university and the synergy between science and the idea of peace, which is more important than ever in today's world.

After the greeting, she welcomed the graduates to an inscription in the doctoral book. In the future, all doctoral candidates will be able to write their names in the high-quality bound book as part of their ceremony.
