Botanical Garden

Osnabrück University’s Botanical Garden attracts not only students, researchers and academic staff, but also day-trippers and inquisitive visitors: its special location in two former quarries makes the garden a green gem in the heart of the city.

The garden landscape was designed in line with geographic and topical areas – including North America and Asia, the Swabian Alb and the Mediterranean.  The Amazon Rainforest House is integrated into the side of the quarry.

With an area of 600 square meters and a height of 21 meters, it exhibits over 800 tropical plants from Central and South America.

As a facility of the School of Biology/Chemistry, the Botanical Garden is primarily used for research and teaching purposes in the areas of work involving botany. Scientific plant collections, experimental areas in the field and greenhouses, plants for student classes and a scientific library are available to this end.

In addition, the Grüne Schule im Bohnenkamp-Haus (Green School) a on the grounds of the Botanical Garden also offers a wide range of activities. The Friends of the Botanical Garden also organizes readings, exhibitions and concerts.
