Ambassador Scholarships

Ambassador scholarships for exchange students at Osnabrück University

Osnabrück University's International Office welcomes applications for ambassador scholarships from international exchange students. Ambassador scholarships are financed through the Mobility Fund, which has been set up with the generous financial support of the Felicitas and Werner Egerland Foundation, the Sievert Foundation and the University Society of Osnabrück until 2023.

You can apply for an ambassador scholarship if you are currently enroled as a student or PhD student at one of UOS' partner universities and if you have have been nominated for non-degree seeking studies at Osnabrück University (i.e. exchange studies). You are not eligible if you already receive funding for your exchange studies from another third party (e.g. by the German Academic Exchange Service, Erasmus, etc.).


Ambassador scholarships are issued in the fall and spring term for a time period of max. four months. The scholarship consists of a one-time travel allowance (according to the most recent guidelines for travel allowances stipulated by the German Academic Exchange Service) and/or a monthly scholarship (the amount of which is determined by the most recent guidlines stipulated by the German Academic Exchange Service in its STIBET program).

Selection criteria

A selection committee will review and consider applications based on the following criteria:

  • personal motivation for and expected quality of the intended studies
  • previous academic performance of the applicant
  • exchange balance
  • content of the letter of recommendation to be submitted
  • voluntary committment / community engagement

Application documents

Please submit the following documents in German or in English:

  • Completed application form (PDF, 467 kB)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Motivation letter (explaining the anticipated studies at UOS and the importance of the scholarship (max. 1 page in German or in English))
  • Letter of recommendation from a professor of the home university
  • Enrolment certificate
  • Transcript of Records
  • Proof of community engagament / voluntary work (if applicable)

Application deadlines

Please submit the complete application as a single PDF document via e-mail within the following time frames:

  • For the fall term:         June, 1st - August, 1st      
  • For the spring term:     November, 1st - February, 1st

Selection process

An internal selection committee of Osnabrück University will award ambassador scholarships on the basis of the quality of the application documents. The committee will also determine the specific duration and composition of the scholarship. A decision will be communicated 4 weeks after the application deadline has passed. The exact amount of the ambassador scholarship will depend both on the quality of your application and the available resources in the Mobility Fund.

By receiving the scholarship, you commit to report on your exchange studies if one of the Foundations named above or the University Society of Osnabrück invites you to.
