Germany in Wintertime - Language, Culture and Traditions (LCT)

In this project-based German language course centered around German culture and traditions during winter andChristmas time, students with basic German knowledge (CEFR level A1.1) will improve their German language competency to CEFR level A1.2. Experienced language trainers will supervise and support students in completing projects and provide customised language support throughout the program. This course offers a mix of language classes and cultural experience. Students will have the chance to practise their German in practical contexts, e.g. while baking typical German Christmas cookies or learn about traditions in the winter time.

Course Description

The winter school is comprised of lectures, workshops and excursions. This Winter School offers participants with a basic knowledge of the German language (A1.1) an immersive experience of Christmas time in Germany. Participants will hone their productive and receptive language competenciesin German at level A1.2 through participating in authentic German Christmas traditions, such as singing German Christmas carols, baking Christmas cookies, or crafting Christmas tree ornaments. Experienced instructors and student assistants recruited via a dedicated buddy program will guide participants through the different activities and help them improve their German language proficiency.
