Certificates and credit points

Regular participation is required in order to obtain a certificate of participation and 4 ECTS credit points. However, please note that no final grade will be awarded.

Depending on demand and the participants’ language knowledge, the pre-sessional German language course will be offered on four different proficiency levels (A1, A2, B1, B2) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The minimum number of participants per class is five. Participants will complete a computerized placement test (www.onset.de) on the first day of the course.

The course aims to assist the participants in preparing for the demands of studying at Osnabrück University. Topics covered in the course include among others:

  • Getting to know the city, the student dorms and the university campus,
  • Basic aspects of life in Germany that are important for the participants’ stay at the University in particular and Germany in general,
  • Intercultural awareness building that may aid students in finding their feet in a new environment.

The lower level courses (A1 and A2) focus on acquiring language skills that participants may immediately apply in their daily lives around the city. Higher level courses (B1 and B2), on the other hand, practice those communication skills that relevant for the students’ academic lives at Osnabrück University, e.g. discussing, summarizing and presenting.

In the afternoons we will offer a variety of cultural, social and outdoor activities, which will be attuned to the course contents and objectives.
