Our Cultural Program

Part of all our short-term programs is a unique and extensive cultural program that is meant to supplement the academic portion of the schools and allow students to experience Osnabrück and Germany beyond the classroom and the campus. From one-day city trips, to hiking tours, to museum and theater visits, to picnics and movie nights, we always strive to offer our participants a broad array of social and cultural events that are sure to make your visit a memorable one, beyond the academic course work.

Here are just some examples of what we offer as part of our short-term programs.

Mudflat Hiking Tour

When the tide is low, it is safe to hike through the Wadden Sea from the German main land to one of the islands off the coast. This intertidal zone has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2009 and allows you to experience a fascinating ecosystem with unique flora and fauna up close and personal. Our trip comprises travel by bus to the North Sea and back, the mudflat hiking tour itself lead by a professional guide (English language), a few hours of free time on the island of Baltrum, and the ferry-ride back to the main land during high tide.

Night Watchman Tour

When night falls, Osnabrück Old Town comes to life. So light your lantern and join us on a night watchman tour! Experience the city's rich, fascinating history firsthand and discover sights and sounds invisible in the light of day. Narrow alleyways leave ample room for exploration and the centuries-old buildings give a taste of the city's 17th century history.  The Old Town also abounds in culinary attractions, from the traditional Leysieffer Chocolaterie to a variety of restaurants, pubs, eateries, and ice cream parlors.

Excursion to Bremen

In Bremen, you will visit not only St. Petri Cathedral and the 600 years old old town hall, but also the Böttcherstraße - home to arts, craft shops and studios – and the medieval quarter "Schnoor" with its narrow alleys and small houses. A guided walking tour will also introduce you to the Town Musicians of Bremen” (a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster) and their significance for Bremen today. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the city at your own leisure.

International Picnic

It is our firm belief that sharing a meal together is one of the best ways of exploring another culture. As such, the International Picnic is the cornerstone of all our short-term programs. To guarantee a successful dining experience, we rely on your help: we kindly ask you, if possible, to bring local ingredients from your country or area to be able to prepare a typical dish for your fellow participants to enjoy.

Optional Trip to Berlin

Berlin - the capital of Germany - definitely has to be on your travel itinerary. During our summer schools, you will have the opportunity to spend three days exploring this sprawling metropolis. You will stand on top of the German Reichstag, travel back in time by visiting the GDR museum and gain valuable insight into Germany’s darkest hour at the Holocaust Memorial. We will also provide you with accommodation (breakfast included) and a public transportation ticket as well as enough spare time so you can explore the countless sights Berlin has to offer on your own.
