Career guidance

Osnabrück University helps its young scholars to develop their career strategies by providing targeted advice.
Advice is given to prospective PhD candidates who are unsure whether or not to embark on a PhD program. Assistance is also given to PhD students who have just commenced their PhD and to those at the final stage seeking assistance in developing and planning their career options.
The aim of this service is to provide support to young scholars during the PhD phase and the transition to the postdoctoral phase/non-university labor market by actively shaping potential career paths in academia or elsewhere. The different stages of the postdoctoral phase are taken into account in advisory services for postdocs.
Young scholars are offered decision-making assistance in defining their professional objectives, irrespective of whether they wish to remain in academia, become self-employed scholars or embark on a non-research career. Advice on career strategies and research funding options is given to those interested in pursuing an academic career, including assistance in applying for positions.
