Mentoring programs for young scholars

The mentoring programs enable highly-qualified young scholars to gain individual accompaniment and support with regard to their career advancement. The programs are one of the targeted and processoriented instruments for developing young scholars and help to strengthen equal opportunities in the science system.

The PhD/Postdoc Career Center provides two mentoring programs for specific target groups alternately:

  • Mentoring program for female doctoral candidates “Career perspectives after the doctorate” (12-month)
  • Mentoring program for postdocs, junior and tenure track professors “Paths to a professorship” (18-month)

This year's mentoring program for female doctoral candidates has commenced in May 2020.

The next mentoring program for postdocs, junior and tenure track professors will commence in June 2021. Applications are now possible! More information   Apply now.

The next round of the mentoring program for female doctoral candidates will commence in January 2023. Applications will be possible from autumn 2022.

Each program cycle is preceded by a preparatory phase comprising an obligatory preparatory workshop for mentees, the recruitment of mentors and the matching of mentoring pairs. The seminar language is German. On request, some parts of the programs could also be offered in English.

Now open for applications: Mentoring for postdocs, junior and tenure track professors
"Paths to a professorship" (June 2021- December 2022)

The mentoring-program for postdocs, junior and tenure track professors will take place again in 2021-2022. The coming program run is marked by a broadening of objectives. According to the wishes and needs that were communicated in the past years, the program will for the first time be open to all scientists. It offers targeted, individual career support and as a long run aim wants to contribute to increasing the number of females and first generation students in academic leadership positions. The 18-months-program is directed at highly qualified postdocs, junior and tenure track professors of all disciplines who are aspiring to a professorship or a management position in academia or are still in an orientation phase regarding their career within or outside of academia. Especially scholars whose parents have not studied (first generation students) are invited to apply.

The program starts in June 2021. Applications are possible until January 24th 2021.
