Mentoring relationship

German version

The consulting relationship between mentor and mentee (tandem) constitutes the heart of the programs. In individual discussions, professionally relevant topics are addressed, such as career strategies, role clarification and upcoming appointment procedures, as well as difficult situations and challenges. Mentee and mentor join forces to find solutions and ways of implementing them. Establishing networks is another key element of the mentoring programs. The length of the mentoring relationship is limited, depending on the duration of the program. Regular meetings take place within this period. The modalities of the mentoring partnership are agreed upon individually between the mentee and mentor, whereby a minimum of five discussions in the course of the program is recommended. Mutual goodwill, trust and bindingness are important to ensure the mentoring partnership is a success. Mentoring is seen as an additional measure to supplement specialized advice given on the mentee’s scientific work. It is important that mentor and mentee are independent of one another, and that the mentor has no authority to give instructions.
