Intercultural mentoring program
The Intercultural Mentoring program at Osnabrück University (imos) addresses international students who seek to get their Bachelor's/undergraduate or Master's/graduate degree in Osnabrück, studying full time. They receive individual support by dedicated German students and academics (mentors) in the process of integration into the German culture and university system.
The student mentors are experienced students of Osnabrück University of all fields of studies who acquire counselling skills as well as intercultural competencies during a one-semester training. Their task is the individual social and study-related guidance of the international students (mentees) in consideration of their cultural backgrounds.
If academic assistance is needed, the mentees can additionally get support from an academic mentor of the respective field of studies. The academic mentors help the international students develop an independent and critical academic working style.
The organization and coordination of the mentoring program, the training of the student mentors and the continuous counseling of the participants is carried out by a graduate psychologist of the Psychology department and a team of trained student aides.
