The School of Cultural and Social Sciences at Osnabrück University seeks to appoint a professor (m/f/d) at the Institute of Geography (IfG) – subject to funding being granted – at the earliest possible date:
Forced Migration and Space
(Grade W2)
Responsibilities:
The professorship is intended to pursue a reflexive, fundamental, and interdisciplinary research programme focused on spatial aspects of forced migration. It aims to strengthen forced migration studies at Osnabrück University and is intended to make a decisive contribution to the further development and networking of forced migration studies in Germany and within the international research community.
The professorship will cooperate closely with the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS). In particular, the professorship is expected to participate in the DFG Collaborative Research Centre 1604 “Production of Migration”, through an innovative subproject on the “production of forced migration” as well as through research-related collaborations with other subprojects.
In terms of teaching, the professorship is expected to contribute to the Geography degree programmes (2-subject Bachelor’s, B.Sc., M.Sc.) as well as the Master’s programme “International Migration and Intercultural Relations” (IMIB) and the international Master’s programme “European Master in Migration Studies” (EuMIGS). Teaching will be in English and German.
Participation in university committees is expected.
Professional Requirements:
We are seeking a research-oriented colleague with a strong international scientific network and distinct academic qualifications. Successful candidates must have experience in space-related forced migration research, research experience in international contexts, and a record of high-impact publications. The future professor has excellent knowledge of international and interdisciplinary migration and forced migration research as well as reflexive and space-sensitive research perspectives. Experience in leading externally funded projects is expected, as is experience in supporting early-career researchers. In addition, relevant teaching experience related to the thematic fields of the aforementioned degree programmes must be demonstrated. Strong teaching skills must be demonstrated through relevant teaching evaluations. Furthermore, the future incumbent must have very good English language skills; a good command of German is preferred.
Legal Conditions of Employment:
You will hold a university degree in geography or a related social science, such as area studies, ethnology, history, political science, or sociology, show a proven aptitude for teaching, have demonstrated your ability to engage independently in advanced academic research – as a rule by obtaining an outstanding PhD – and have a sustained publication record in research equivalent to the German Habilitation in accordance with Section 25 subsection 1 no. 4a of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act [NHG].
Part-time employment is possible.
