Political murders in Hellenism

 Dr. Anja Busch, Hamburg

Anja Busch's lecture on violence at Hellenistic courts explores the question of whether female initiators of assassinations or actual female murderers are treated differently from male murderers in the literary sources of the Hellenistic period. By separating the authors' gender attributions from female actions and creating a common, class-specific field of action, she is able to focus on the pragmatic considerations of lethal violence by women and men - considerations whose implementation follows patterns that are more class-specific than gender-specific.
