How did teachers recruit their students from abroad? What
sphere of influence could they assume in a polis? And how did they expand this sphere and their student body through their own mobility (especially since too much mobility always meant a great danger for employment in the polis)? Based on case studies and with the aid of geomarketing methods, this lecture attempts to answer these questions. The case studies include the "catchment areas" of ancient educational centers around Libanios, Eunapios, Philostratos and Aelius Aristides.
