Who makes up the student council?
Generally speaking, the student body includes all students majoring in Art or Art Education. Colloquially, however, the term “Fachschaft” usually refers to the Student Council. The Student Council officially consists of seven members, whom you can elect each year. Because the seven representatives cannot handle all the tasks on their own, the Art Student Body includes many other students from various semesters. We’re always happy to welcome new members who are eager to actively support the student association! You’re always welcome to stop by one of our student association meetings and get a taste of what we do!

What does the student council do?
The student council’s main task is to represent students’ interests; in other words, we represent your interests as best we can in the university’s governing bodies and in our interactions with faculty members. If you have any issues with faculty members, exams, or other academic questions, feel free to reach out to us—we’ll try to mediate or refer you to the appropriate contacts. You can also find an overview of key contacts at the Institute of Art/Art Education right here on the website.
Another task of the student council is to plan and organize Freshman Week so that first-year students can ease into student life as smoothly as possible, get to know the university, and make their first connections with fellow students. In addition, we organize various events throughout the year, including art auctions, exhibitions, and Christmas parties, which strengthen our sense of community and provide space for exchange and creative inspiration. We’re open to all ideas and look forward to developing and implementing new formats together with you.
We meet weekly for official student council meetings, where we spend time together, discuss current issues, plan cultural events, and tackle everything that comes up in everyday student life. Everyone is welcome to drop in at any time—our meetings are open, uncomplicated, and accessible, so that every voice is heard and new ideas can be incorporated right away.
