Changing Universities and Majors

Regardless of whether you are transferring within the university or to another university, or changing your degree program, the transfer process always takes place through the application procedure on  the University of Osnabrück’s online application portal.

  • For programs with no admission restrictions, you can generally enroll by September 30.
  • If at least one of your majors has restricted admission, the earlier deadline for that major applies—that is, by July 15.
  • For the art program, the deadlines for the  aptitude test must also be strictly adhered to.

Procedure for Changing Universities or Majors

  • Placement into a Higher Semester: If you have already completed coursework and do not wish to begin in the first semester, you should request a  placement recommendation (PDF). Submit your request to  the Student Affairs Office, which will also provide you with the appropriate contact person in your department.
  • Enrollment in the first semester: If you have not yet completed any coursework, the placement procedure is not required. You can apply directly for the first semester.
  • Application via the Online Portal: Applications are submitted through the  University of Osnabrück’s online application portal. There, you will find a list of all the required documents you must submit.
  • Special provisions for Art: For the Art program, you must register  for the art aptitude test in addition to  submitting your application. This test is used to assess artistic aptitude and is a prerequisite for admission.
  • Recognition of Prior Academic Achievement: After enrollment, academic achievements completed previously can still be  recognized through the respective department.

Contact Person for Changing Universities or Majors

There are different points of contact for the various steps involved in changing universities or majors:

  • Application & Enrollment: The  Student Affairs Office is responsible for this.
  • Subject-Specific Questions: The  academic advising office assists with all questions regarding course content or program-specific matters.
  • Placement Recommendation: This can be conducted either by the Academic Advising Office or by another faculty member with subject-area expertise; this depends on the specific field of study.
  • General questions about your studies or academic subjects:  The Central Student Advising Office (ZSB) provides support with orientation, choosing a program, and general concerns.
