Courses
As part of their studies at the institute, students have access to a wide variety of courses. The foundational curriculum, which includes guided practical work processes, introduces students to the various fields of design and artistic practice and guides them toward their own individual artistic practice. Students then deepen their knowledge and skills in their chosen areas of focus through studio instruction, building on the foundational knowledge and skills they have acquired. Individual feedback sessions, as well as group discussions for comparative analysis, contribute to a critical and reflective approach to their own creative process.
The practical studies are complemented by relevant academic disciplines. Courses in art history as well as art and media studies supplement the practical experience gained with a receptive and theoretically grounded engagement with contemporary and historical art and its contexts.
Subject-specific pedagogy also includes courses designed to foster an understanding of—and develop the necessary competencies for—art-specific teaching and learning processes. Within this framework, seminars and projects prepare students for professional fields in art education—both in and out of schools—and facilitate critical reflection on the conditions of these fields. Professional guidance for students’ initial experiences in art education—such as during required internships—is also provided here.
