Registration and Exams

Attendance is required for most seminars and lectures (see  module descriptions), and regular participation is expected.

How and when do I register for courses?
Course registration is done through Stud.IP. There, you can either use the search function to look for specific courses or browse the course directory. Please be sure to note the registration deadlines so that your registration is processed in time.

I didn’t get a spot in the course. What can I do now?
If a course is already full, you can first join the waitlist. Also, be sure to attend the first session, as spots sometimes become available then. If neither of these options works, you’ll need to either register for an alternative course or try again next semester.

For which modules can I have a course credited?
Through Stud.IP, you can view the module descriptions and the module directory to see which options are available for course credit.

How can I sign up for field trips?
Field trips are usually announced via email. For each field trip, there is a set period during which you can register via Stud.IP.

Assessment methods are varied, are based on the content of the modules, and are ultimately determined by the respective instructors:

• Exams (primarily in art history/theory modules)

• Term papers (written in-depth exploration and analysis of topics)

• Presentations (e.g., on artistic or art education-related topics)

• Portfolios (collections of work processes, reflections, and project documentation)

• Artistic and practical work (e.g., portfolios, artworks, exhibition of one’s own work during the semester)

Note on Types of Assessment

It is important to distinguish between graded examinations and ungraded coursework. In HISinOne, graded examinations are marked with a gold star and ungraded coursework with a silver star.

Registration must be completed exclusively through the HISinOne exam system within the specified deadlines. Without registration in the system, no course credits can be awarded, even if the work has been completed. Instructors typically remind students of the deadlines, but the responsibility lies with the students themselves. In the event of illness or special circumstances (with a doctor’s note), there are established procedures for withdrawing from an exam or taking a make-up exam.

Note:
There are no uniform deadlines for all courses; therefore, you should regularly check the announcements on HISinOne and in SoGo.

If you have missed the registration deadline, you cannot simply register after the fact. However, you have the option of submitting a hardship request to the Examination Committee. In this request, you should explain why you were unable to register by the deadline and what hardship would result if you were not allowed to register retroactively.
