Project Escape Statistics

Welcome to the website of the "Escape Statistics" project.

Our goal is to enable all students to achieve successful and lasting learning outcomes in the introductory statistics course that go beyond simply passing the exam. Students should recognize and actively experience the value of a solid foundation in statistics for their future studies and professional careers.
To achieve this goal, we are developing an innovative online educational escape room that combines knowledge acquisition, practical application, and teamwork. The active involvement of students in designing the escape room is central to this approach: They select relevant research fields and assist in developing the tasks, thereby establishing a direct connection to their own interests.
The learning content is embedded in current social science research fields. To accommodate the diverse BA programs, we integrate tailored empirical examples. Students work on tasks based on real-world datasets that require the application of various statistical methods, such as conducting a table analysis, interpreting bivariate regression analyses, or performing hypothesis tests.
In this way, students experience how statistical methods help them answer their own research questions and consolidate their knowledge by applying it to new problems. This integration is intended to significantly increase both intrinsic motivation and subjective learning success.
