Preliminary courses for first semester students
Pre-course in mathematics
The School of Business Administration and Economics usually offers a preliminary course on quantitative methods (mathematics, statistics) at the beginning of each winter semester for first-semester students on the Bachelor's degree programs in Business Administration and Economics and Information Systems as well as the core subject of Economics. Participation is strongly recommended for a successful start to your studies. First-semester students on the Master's degree courses are also welcome to take part in this free preparatory course.

The next preliminary mathematics course is expected to take place from 28.09. to 02.10.2026.
Preliminary course in computer science
For first-semester students on the Bachelor's degree course in Information Systems, the school of Mathematics/Computer Science offers a preliminary course in Computer Science, which prepares students for the compulsory course "Computer Science for Users" in the first semester.

Depending on the dates of a semester, we cannot always rule out the possibility that the mathematics and computer science pre-courses may overlap. Of course, we always try to avoid an overlap. If an overlap cannot be avoided, for example because the introductory week takes place directly after the start of the semester, we would like to point out that the sessions of the computer science preliminary course are usually recorded and can then be viewed by participants via Stud.IP.
Support Course: Advanced Methods of Business and Economics
To support students in the early phase of their Master's studies, we are offering a Support Course during the first weeks of the semester.
The course is specifically designed to refresh essential methodological foundations in mathematics, statistics, and econometrics. In addition to revisiting core concepts, you will work through concrete problems and applications relevant to the Economics curriculum, helping students strengthen their analytical skills in an applied context.
Participation is strongly recommended, especially for students who wish to consolidate their methodological background - however, attendance is not mandatory.
