Wer sind wir – was ist promos/ Fachschaft Promotion? / Who are we - what is promos/ Fachschaft Promotion?

Der promos-Rat stellt ein offizielles Organ der Universität Osnabrück dar und vertritt gemeinsam mit der Fachschaft Promotion die Interessen aller Promovierenden an der Universität Osnabrück. Die fünf Mitglieder des promos-Rates sind vorrangig für die Repräsentation und Interessensvertretung der Promovierenden gegenüber der Hochschulleitung zuständig. Um diesen Aufgaben nachzukommen sind sie in verschiedenen universitären Gremien tätig: So benennt der promos-Rat vier Mitglieder für den wissenschaftlichen Beirat des ZePrOs und entsendet Mitglieder für die Teilnahme an den Sitzungen der Fachbereichsräte und des Senats.

Die Fachschaft Promotion ist die Vertretung aller an der Universität Osnabrück immatrikulierten Promotionstudierenden und Teil der universitären Selbstverwaltung. Der Arbeitsschwerpunkt der Fachschaft Promotion liegt in der sozialen Vernetzung aller Promovierenden.

The promos-Council is an official body of the University of Osnabrück and represents the interests of all doctoral students at the University of Osnabrück together with the Fachschaft Promotion. The five members of the promos-Council are primarily responsible for representing the interests of doctoral students to the university management. In order to fulfill these tasks, they are active in various university committees: For example, the promos-Council nominates four members for the scientific advisory board of the ZePrOS and sends members to participate in the meetings of the departmental councils and the senate.

The Fachschaft Promotion is the representation of all doctoral students enrolled at the University of Osnabrück and part of the university self-administration. The main focus of the Fachschaft Promotion is the fostering of social networking among doctoral students.

Mit welchen Fragen können sich Promovierende an uns wenden? / What questions can doctoral candidates contact us with?

Grundsätzlich könnt ihr euch mit allen Fragen rund um die Promotion per E-Mail an uns wenden. Wenn wir selbst keine Antwort wissen, leiten wir euch mit eurem Anliegen an entsprechende Anlaufstellen weiter.

In general, you can contact us by e-mail with any questions you may have about your PhD. If we do not know the answer ourselves, we will forward your request to the appropriate contact points.

Was bieten wir an? / What do we offer?

Zur Vernetzung der Promovierenden organisieren wir regelmäßig verschiedene Veranstaltungen:

• immer am 1. Dienstag eines Monats ab 19:15 Uhr, digital über folgende StudIP-Gruppe
• Bei unserer Langen Nacht könnt ihr gemeinsam in (virtueller) Gesellschaft von anderen Promovierenden in konzentrierten Arbeitsphasen (Pomodoro-Prinzip) endlich dieses Kapitel bearbeiten oder jenes Paper fertig schreiben, für das ihr sonst nie die Zeit oder Motivation findet. Abwechselnd wird die Pausengestaltung von einer Yogalehrerin oder einer Coachingexpertin übernommen!

• immer am 3. Freitag eines Monats ab 08:30 Uhr, digital über folgende StudIP-Gruppe
• Für alle, die keine Nachteulen sind und morgens effektiver arbeiten können, organisieren wir neuerdings auch ein virtuelles Co-Working, das genauso strukturiert ist wie die Lange Nacht, nur eben um 08:30 Uhr beginnt.

• ohne Corona: immer am 2. Dienstag im Monat
• Egal, ob ihr gerade erst mit der Diss angefangen habt oder schon kurz vor der Abgabe steht: Bei unserem Stammtisch könnt ihr andere Promovierende kennenlernen, alte Gesichter wiedertreffen und euch in geselliger Runde austauschen. Zurzeit findet der Stammtisch in unregelmäßigen Abständen statt – damit ihr kein Treffen verpasst, tragt euch in unsere Mailingliste ein und folgt uns bei Instagram.

Außerdem organisieren wir immer mal wieder weitere Veranstaltungen (bspw. einen digitalen Stammtisch, Vorträge oder die Weihnachtsfeier), über die wir über unsere Mailingliste und auf Instagram  informieren.

We regularly organize various events for the networking of doctoral students:

• always on the 1st Tuesday of a month from 7:15 p.m., digitally via the following StudIP group).
• At our Long Night you can work together in (virtual) company of other PhD students in concentrated work phases (pomodoro principle) to finally finish this chapter or write that paper for which you otherwise never find the time or motivation. Alternately, the breaks will be organized by a yoga instructor or a coaching expert!

• always on the 3rd Friday of a month from 08:30 a.m., digitally via the following StudIP group.
• For all those who are not night owls and can work more effectively in the morning, we have recently also organized a virtual co-working, which is structured in the same way as the Long Night, but starts at 08:30 a.m..

• without Corona: always on the 2nd Tuesday of the month
• No matter if you have just started with your dissertation or if you are about to hand it in: At our regulars’ table you can get to know other PhD students, meet old faces and exchange ideas in a sociable atmosphere. Currently, the regulars’ table takes place at irregular intervals – to make sure you don’t miss a meeting, sign up for our mailing list and follow us on Instagram.

We also organize other events from time to time (e.g. a digital regulars’ table, lectures or the Christmas party), about which we provide information via our mailing list and on Instagram.

Warum ist uns die Interessensvertretung und die Vernetzung von Promovierenden wichtig? Was liegt uns dabei besonders am Herzen? / Why is the representing of interests and the networking of doctoral candidates so important for us? What are our main concerns?

Wir haben den Eindruck, dass Promovierende als eigene Interessengruppe oft unter dem Radar bleiben und nicht separat bedacht werden. Ähnliches gilt für die Vernetzung, da die natürlichen Wege, untereinander in Kontakt zu kommen, für Promovierende größtenteils entfallen, schließlich besucht man anders als im Studium nicht mehr täglich gemeinsam Lehrveranstaltungen. Wir wollen den Promovierenden andere Gelegenheiten zum Austausch ermöglichen, denn viele Doktorand*innen erleben die Phase der Promotion als Herausforderung, kämpfen mit ähnlichen Widrigkeiten oder machen vergleichbar frustrierende Erfahrungen. Unserer Erfahrung nach kann der Austausch mit anderen Promovierenden dem Gefühl entgegenwirken, allein mit allem dazustehen.

We have the impression that doctoral students often stay below the radar as a separate interest group and are not considered separately. The same applies to networking, as the natural ways of coming into contact with each other are largely no longer available to doctoral researchers, since unlike during their studies, they no longer attend lectures together on a daily basis. We want to provide doctoral researchers with other opportunities for exchange, because many doctoral researchers experience the doctoral phase as a challenge, struggle with similar adversities or have similarly frustrating experiences. In our opinion, exchange with other doctoral researchers can counteract the feeling of being alone with all the problems.
