Beschreibung:
A good English language competence is essential for communicating well in international academic contexts. This course is, therefore, designed to help you develop, refresh, and/or expand your knowledge of some key areas of academic English grammar, vocabulary, and usage.

On the one hand, we will analyze what is specific about academic language and what resources are available to develop your own language skills. On the other hand, we will focus on how to use adequate words, phrases, and sentence struc-tures to professionally express yourself, to best describe the aim of a text, to make your academic texts flow well, and to maximize the impact of your writing.

Some of the topics we will cover are:
• key features of academic language;
• introducing yourself and your research in academic contexts;
• connecting sentences and ideas cohesively;
• marking the structural development of a text;
• emphasizing and highlighting a point;
• expressing caution;
• using electronic resources for developing language skills.

This workshop is part of the interdisciplinary program ENGLISH+ for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers.
