Content:
This course will focus on the features that characterize texts in English in the field of science and technology. You will discover the linguistic tools that are used to craft academic texts and you will find out about the typical structure of the different sections that make up an academic paper (or a thesis). We will also practice a number of linguistic routines that are typical of scientific writing, for example process descriptions or the discussion of graphs and visuals, and, in order to get your message across effectively in writing, we will look at some common mistakes that German first-language writers tend to make when writing in English.
In addition, participants are encouraged to send in samples of their writing or drafts of texts that they are struggling with prior to the workshop, so that they can be discussed in class. Alternatively, participants may book individual consulta-tions with the lecturer to discuss and review their writing. |
