On July 4, the Denken.Fühlen.Handeln Festival in Bielefeld became a living laboratory for alternative visions of society: As part of a workshop organized by the FuturMig Future Lab, the focus was on the question of what a solidarity-based city of the future might actually look like.
Led by M. Knappik and Yasmin Dreessen (University of Göttingen), the participants first explored various forward-looking initiatives—including the Zapatistas, the Mietshäuser-Syndikat, the Transition Town movement, and the concept of the commons. The conceptual phase gave way to a creative phase: The participants designed a model of their vision for a city based on solidarity, which they named “Solicity.” The focus was not only on the utopian idea but also on the crucial question: How do we move from this vision to practical implementation? We would like to thank everyone involved for their creative input and the inspiring exchange.
