Migrants as a target group for volunteer work in civil protection and disaster control

Funding and partners: Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance; City of Osnabrück

Duration: April to August 2012

Project management: Prof. Dr. Christoph Rass and Maren Wilmes

Project staff: Danielle Gluns and Claudia Pinkert

On behalf of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, IMIS is using the example of the city of Osnabrück and the organizations involved in civil protection and disaster control there to investigate the question of why migrants are underrepresented in volunteering in this area. Interviews with young people with a migration background and representatives from relevant organizations as well as experts from the local administration serve as an empirical basis. In addition to analyzing the causes, the aim is to develop recommendations for action for the intercultural opening of voluntary work in civil protection and disaster control.
