PhD interConnect

„PhD interConnect“ ist das Betreuungs- und Qualifizierungsprogramm des International Office für internationale Promovierende.

Das Programm umfasst eine Reihe von Veranstaltungen wie Workshops, Seminare, Exkursionen, Diskussionsabende und andere Formate.

Unter Begleitung des International Office plant, bewirbt und gestaltet eine Gruppe von vier internationalen Promovierenden diese Veranstaltungsreihe zu Themen, die für internationale und hiesige Promovierende von Belang sind.

So erhalten die Promovierenden die Möglichkeit zur zusätzlichen Qualifizierung für akademische und nichtakademische Zwecke. Außerdem werden so interdisziplinäre Netzwerke gebildet und Promovierende erhalten die Chance, einen Beitrag zur fortschreitenden Internationalisierung der UOS zu leisten.

Content: The title of this event is a phrase from Benjamin Franklin. As PhD students, many of us face this obstacle, procrastination. Managing time, finding out priorities and keeping on working might be challenging but it is possible. Join us in this online workshop by Lutz Kolburg who will focus on the participants' experience and show how dysfunctional mechanisms of procrastination can be turned into productivity and satisfaction.
The coach: Lutz Kolburg, a clinical psychologist, is specialised in the field of procrastination. He has been working as  therapist, lecturer and coach with clients and groups on the topic for almost 10 years. He received a master's degree in psychology from Osnabrück University and was trained as a therapist at the Academy for Behavioural Therapy in Cologne, Germany.

Gender balance and language: The use of gender-neutral language and its importance

Content: Talk and discussion with Carmela Ferrara (they/them), Ph.D. candidate in Mind, Gender and Language at University of Naples Federico II. Sociologist and expert in gender and sexualities, their current research is on narrative infrastructures on researchers' work experiences, by looking at their epistemic action space in an intersectional way. Their research interests are migration and gender studies, since they have studied the experience of queer asylum seekers and regugees in Italy. They also voluteer in the prison of Napoli with transgender inmates which where they are conducting and etnografic fieldwork. From a methodological point of view they use to do participatory research by working with visual. They position themselves as working class, queer and neurodivergent precarious researcher.

Aby Anand

My name is Aby Anand and I am from Kerala, India. Currently, I am a PhD student in the Barisch lab, division of molecular infection biology. The aim of my PhD thesis is to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms of host lipid acquisition by mycobacteria to understand the aspects of their intracellular persistence. The project would eventually lead to new therapies to fight tuberculosis. Apart from academics, I do bike tours and I play badminton. As a team player of the PhD interconnect, I would like to take advantage to get to know the students from all over the globe pursuing their PhD at the University of Osnabrück.

Carolina Stange

I am Carolina, a PhD student at the University of São Paulo and Osnabrück University. My research investigates how the organizational structure and culture of an environmental enforcement agency, on the one hand, and actors coordinated around the soy and cattle global supply chains, on the other, responded to the implementation of anti-deforestation policies in the Brazilian Amazon. I love to dance forró and to play board games and soccer. Also, I'm fascinated by the writings of Clarice Lispector and the songs of Alceu Valença. I look forward to meeting new colleagues this semester!

Cynthia Machado

My name is Cyntia Machado and I am a history teacher in Brazil. I have a bachelor degree in History and in Law; a specialization in Public Security Policies and a Master's Degree in Labour Policies and Globalisation. Currently, I am cursing the second semester of my doctorate here in Osnabrück at IMIS. My main object of study is the domestic workers in Latin America, more precisely the struggle for better working conditions for this immense and ignored labor category. I'm very communicative and make friends easily. As a good Brazilian, I like to get people together and enjoy what life has to offer.

Giuseppe Visco

I am Giuseppe, a PhD student at the University of Osnabrück and University of Naples "FedericoII". My research focuses on the study of sociolinguistic variation in the dialect of a small municipality in the province of Avellino, San Nicola Baronia.  In my free time, I enjoy travelling and following football. I love German literature and Brecht is my favourite writer. I am very happy to be able to share my experiences with an international group of PhD students and discover new cultures.

Stevanus Listian

My name is Stevanus Listian. I am a cell biologist who are working under Dr. Caroline Barisch. Together we are investigating how lipids from the host are being manipulated to enhance the growth of the intracellular pathogen. Originating from Indonesia, I am very eager to meet and connect with fellow PhD from all over the world. I find connecting and helping fellow students as an enriching experience. As hobbies, I like to run, dance, and sing karaoke with friends. I am looking forward to see you all.

 

Edwin Mutyenyoka

My name is Edwin Mutyenyoka, I come from Zimbabwe and I am a PhD Candidate in the Institute for Migration Research and Interculural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück. As a member of the PhD InterConnect group, I cherish being part of projects and programs that seek to network PhD Candidates from different disciplines, backgrounds and cultures.

 

Esteban Durán Delgado

I am Esteban Durán Delgado, independent Ph.D. Student from San José, Costa Rica. My subject is Developmental Psychology and Culture, and my research is about conceptions of care, parenting and attachment in low-income families, both nationals and immigrants. Results will further allow us to understand more about the interactions between the everyday challenges of parenting and living conditions.

Adriana Maria Bernal Escobar

I am a Colombian living in Osnabrück since 2018. I am part of UOS’s Institute of Environmental Systems Research where I am finishing my PhD in Natural Sciences. In my doctoral thesis I look at the relevance of equity in the design of Payments for ecosystem services, by conducting economic experiments with Colombian farmers. I love sharing and meeting new people through food. I am excited about this new opportunity to connect with other PhD students and discover new cultures and fields of study.

Maryam Hosseini

I'm Maryam Hosseini. I was born and raised in Iran, Shiraz. I studied translation and linguistics in Tehran. I am a PhD candidate in English studies and linguistics, focusing on cognitive metaphor and emotion. As a member of PhD interconnect group, I will be glad to provide you with an informative workshop on „intercultural communication“, inviting a guest lecturer from the UK!
