As part of the DFG-funded Research Training Group ECORISK, the Institute of Mathematics at Osnabrück University is seeking to appoint a position as
Research Assistant/PhD Candidate (m/f/d)
(Pay Grade E 13 TV-L, 75%)
on a fixed-term basis for three years, starting at the earliest possible date.
The position is part of the subproject “Ecological resilience in the flow: Modeling spatiotemporal population dynamics in rivers” in the Research Training Group “Ecological Regime Shifts and Systemic Risk in Coupled Social-Ecological Systems” (ECORISK). The Research Training Group deals with the causes of ecological regime shifts and their potential consequences in social-ecological systems in an interdisciplinary approach. ECORISK is located at Osnabrück University, which is renowned for its outstanding interdisciplinary research and embedded in a city with an excellent quality of life.
Your duties:
- Scientific work on mathematical modeling of spatiotemporal population dynamics as part of the aforementioned subproject, which also forms the basis for your own academic qualification in the form of a doctoral degree
- Participation in and contribution to the events of the Research Training Group
Requirements:
- An above-average academic degree in environmental systems science, applied mathematics, theoretical ecology, physics, or in a related discipline or interdisciplinary study program
- Expertise in mathematical and computer-based modeling of spatiotemporal processes in environmental systems (e.g., with partial or ordinary differential equations)
- Very good written and spoken English language skills
