Beschreibung

The seminar will treat various linguistic, cognitive and neurophysiological aspects of bilingualism and second language acquisition (SLA). We will read about and discuss how more than one language can be learned simultaneously starting from birth and what are the consequences for processing. What are the differences to situations where languages are learned sequentially or even at an older age. Are there cognitive consequences, benefits or costs, brought about by bilingualism or SLA? How does the brain deal with more than one language and also with specific demands, like code switching or translation? We will discuss papers from the theoretical field as well as empirical studies in order to develop a firm basis to discuss these questions.

ETCS credits will be earned via an oral presentation and an additional test during the term.
