In this lecture course we will deal with language variation and how it can be described and analyzed. In doing so, we will look at both language internal and external factors and how they interplay with linguistic variability.
At the same time, language variation is closely interlinked with language change. All language change is based on variability - but not all variability leads to change. We will thus also study the relationship of language variation and change in present-day and historical Englishes.

NOTE: This is a lecture course for the V2 Module. You can only obtain 2 credit points in this course.
This course is not suitable for the I-Module!
