The School of Human Sciences, Institute of Cognitive Science (IKW) of Osnabrück University seeks to appoint a

Full Professorship in Psycho-/Neurolinguistics (m/f/d)
(Bes.Gr. W2)

at the earliest possible date.

The successful applicant will represent the field of Psycho-/Neurolinguistics in its entirety with a special focus on a core area of Psycho-/Neurolinguistics (e.g., language acquisition, language processing or pragmatics). She/he is expected to complement the existing research groups at the Institute of Cognitive Science, and to cooperate with more than one of those currently existing research groups closely connected to the field of Psycho- and Neurolinguistics (e.g., the research groups Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Modelling, and Comparative BioCognition). Furthermore, she/he should actively participate in existing and future collaborative research networks (currently RTG Situated Cognition, RTG Computational Cognition, SIDDATA, profile line “Cognition: Human-Technology-Interaction”). Further collaborations with existing research groups in the Philologies, Psychology or Philosophy are desirable.

The successful candidate is expected to represent the full range of the field of Psycho-/Neurolinguistics in research and teaching across all levels of the Cognitive Science study program ( B.Sc. , M.Sc., Ph.D.), including also interdisciplinary programs. All courses will be held in English.

Professional Requirements:
Professional requirements are
an internationally visible scientific activity in the field of Psycho-/Neurolinguistics with a strong focus on one or more of the above-mentioned core areas (this expertise must be demonstrated by an extensive record of relevant publications in international, renowned journals), a coherent, independent research program in Psycho-/Neurolinguistics, advanced skills in understanding and applying modern methods of data analysis and statistical inference, significant experience in the acquisition of external funding and implementation of collaborative projects, interest in and the capability for interdisciplinary research in the field of Cognitive Science, proven teaching skills and experience, and the ability to conduct basic, independent teaching modules mirroring the subject area of the professorship, and an excellent command of the English language is expected, and basic knowledge of the German language.

Broad expertise in several relevant methods of Psycho- and Neurolinguistics (e.g., behavioural studies, eye-tracking, EEG-measurements) is expected.

Desired is a strong foundation in linguistic theory, and international experience acquired via employment at Universities and scientific institutions abroad, as well as international collaborations.

Statutory Requirements:
Candidates are required to hold a pertinent University degree, show a documented  aptitude for teaching, have demonstrated the ability to engage independently in
advanced academic research – as a rule by obtaining an outstanding PhD – and have a sustained publication record in research equivalent to the German Habilitation in accordance with Section 25 subsection 1 no. 4a of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act [NHG].

The position is available on a full-time or part-time basis.
