After studying history and political science at the University of Hanover and the Universidad de Costa Rica, Sebastian Huhn initially worked from 2006 to 2010 as a research assistant in the DFG-funded research project "Public Spheres and Violence in Central America" led by Prof. Dr. Anika Oettler at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg. He received his doctorate (summa cum laude) from the University of Hamburg in 2011. From 2011 to 2015, Sebastian Huhn worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG). At the IKG, he played a key role in the BMZ-funded research and cooperation project "Violence Research and Development", which he designed and applied for together with Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Heitmeyer and Boris Wilke. Sebastian Huhn has been a research assistant at the Department of History (Modern History and Historical Migration Research) at Osnabrück University since 2016.

Contemporary history; historical migration research; migration and violence; crime, violence and public security; violence in the Global South; history of urban violence; discourses on social regulation, national identity and historical images; youth culture, youth gangs and youth violence.
